Steps to keep your Child sick-free from Hand-Foot-Mouth Disease:

  1. Sanitise, disinfect your child's toys frequently.
  2. Children have a tendency to place toys into their mouths in the midst of playing with them. Especially teething toddlers, it has become their nature for them to do that. By placing toys into their mouths, it is a direct pass for the bacteria to invade your child's body. This is also one of the primary cause of Hand-Foot-Mouth Disease. Sanitising and disinfecting your child's playtoys are important ways to prevent your child from falling sick to the disease. Please remember to sanitise thoroughly.

  3. Sanitise common places.
  4. If someone in your family has fallen ill, remember to sanitise common areas to refrain your child from falling sick too. Places like door knobs, restrooms are areas to take note. Soiled items are also important to clean as they are filled with bacteria that may cause your child to fall ill.

  5. Teach your child good hygeine habits.
  6. Educating your child to keep good hygiene habits is the best way to keep you child free from sickness. Your child will continue to practice these good habits even when him/her grows up. Children are naturally active and impatient when it comes to practicing good hygiene habits. However it is advisable to start from their young time.

    You can teach your child to:


    1. Frequently wash their hands with lukewarm water and with soap, especially after going to the toilet, before eating or after being outdoors.

    2. Cover thier mouths with a piece of tissue when they sneeze or cough

    3. Do not place toys or items in their mouths

  7. Consume healthy food and keep a healthy diet
  8. The food your child cosumes is also one of the prime factors to his/her healthy body. Follow the healthy diet pyramid and plan out your child's meal. A healthy body is important!

    Eat less of the unhealthy food such as: Oil, sugar and Spreads. Your child will still require these food to grow up healthy but try your best to not get them addicted. These food can be easily addicted to!

    Next, eat moderate amount of food such as: Protein and dairy products. Take 2-3 servings a day. These food help your child to develop strong bones and body but too much of them can turn to be harmful to your child.

    Lastly, provide your child with more of these food that are beneficial for your child to build up his/her immune systems and a strong body. Take 6-11 servings of carbohydrates such as rice, oats and bread. 3-5 servings of green vegetables each day and 2-4 servings of fruits.


    Your child needs the vitamins and minerals from different food groups to grow up healthy and strong to fight off illnesses. Take in moderation for each type and plan out the best meal plan for your child.
